We created an open design centered around courtyard living in this 3,000 square foot home. The central chimney, fireplaces and roof uses Vermont purple slate from the historic Carolands mansion in Hillsborough. The living room is anchored by a copper accented gas fireplace and glazed alcove. The open kitchen features rosewood stained Mahogany cabinets, granite countertops with glass tile backsplash and stainless steel commercial built-ins. The master bedroom presented a structural challenge to fit eave level windows in a load bearing wall. The hallway uses a frosted glass floor, lit from below, to allow light into the basement that includes a wine cellar, laundry room and bathroom. Photos: Los Altos Town Crier.
