When we built this single story residence, located on eight acres in the hills, we used both post and beam and conventional framing. The flag stone side yard patio looks through the sweeping central gallery topped by exposed cross-trussed timbers. The high-ceiled living room has an expansive, open feeling accomplished by revealing the beams from the gallery and ceiling to floor windows with views of the surrounding hills. The sense of space and volume is carried into the master bedroom by repeating the high ceilings and windows. The understated colors allow the exterior views to dominate.
